“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.”

Occasions

A gift that could only come from your family.

A child's first school drawings

The first school years

Every drawing from age 3 to 6, kept in one piece.

A panel hung as a gift for grandparents

For grandparents

A milestone birthday panel

Milestones

Tenth birthdays, moving house, growing up.

Time

Four to six weeks, and we would not want it faster.

A panel spends a week in intake and photography, two weeks in composition, and ten days in mounting and curing. Every one of those days is doing something.

A priority commission moves to the front of the bench; it does not shorten curing, which is the one thing we will not rush.

Restoration

We repair every panel we have ever made.

A knock in a hallway, a house move, a leak, twenty years of light. Send it back and it returns restored — we keep the record of every commission, including which drawings went where.

The first commissions

We are new, and we would rather say so.

There are no star ratings on this site yet. The atelier is taking its first commissions of 2026 — when families write to us about the finished panels, their words will appear here, with their names and their permission.

Judge the materials

Every specification is published, with certification numbers supplied on request. Read them.

Judge the process

Every piece is logged and photographed on arrival, and every original comes home with the finished panel.

Judge us in person

Come and hold a panel at the atelier before you commit. Make an appointment.

Responsibility

Premium doesn’t mean wasteful.

Every piece is made to order — nothing is produced until you approve it. What lasts generations shouldn’t cost the next one.

The atelier

Composed by hand in Amsterdam.

Le Custode began with a simple observation: the most honest art in any home is made by its youngest residents — and almost none of it survives. Our atelier exists to change that, one panel at a time.
